Goldthread: XP Sparks, Flying Loot & Codex Menus in FateMMO's October 2026 Update

FateMMO's title scene framing the new Codex Status page.

FateMMO is my 2D mobile MMORPG, running on my own C++ engine, and October was the month I spent making the game answer you. When you kill a monster now, the XP falls into your bar as gold sparks and the bar catches up with a shine. Coins hop off the ground and fly into your bag. An enchant stone hops into its slot and holds there, glowing amber, before you find out whether it worked. I call that set of reward animations Goldthread. Alongside it there's Pressmark: nine small touches that make the HUD answer your thumb.

Everything below was captured straight from the game's renderer on the current build, with example data, so the names you'll see are stand-ins. The native game is still in internal TestFlight: the free waitlist is open, invitations aren't live yet, and there's no date. This is a look, not a launch.

Drawthread: kill XP falls into the EXP bar as gold sparks, and a coin flies from the ground into your bag.

Goldthread: rewards that travel

Ten reward moments now animate in the client, and every one starts only after the server confirms the result. The motion never decides anything: every value lands on the server's total, and if you'd rather not see it, the Reduced Effects setting turns it all off.

Threadbinding: the enchant stone hops into the target slot and holds, glowing amber, until the result lands.
Fate's Grace: revive where you fell. Your outline glows gold and the HP bar refills with a shine.

Pets and factions got their moments too. A pet egg now cracks with light and splits before your new pet appears, and crossing a faction-favor milestone wreathes your character (or your Status compass, if the menu is open) while the notice names your new rank.

The Hatching: light cracks across the egg, it splits, and your pet appears in a burst of sparks.

The rest of the set: Epic and Legendary drops glitter in their rarity colour until you pick them up, trades lock with a shimmer before the items cross into each other's bags, socket rolls and appraisals count up and settle in the same time for every result with no near-miss theatre, finished Flower Book entries are pressed in with a stamp, and the marketplace lottery shows its pool growing before the winner's coins fly home.

Pressmark: the HUD answers your thumb

The HUD's action buttons now sink when you press them and spring back when you let go. The Action button pulses with every confirmed hit, with more sparks on a crit, a dip on a miss and a flash on the kill. Skill ranks seal in with a snap, a learned skill book flies to the Skills tab, buffs show the skill that cast them, and crowd control locks the d-pad behind a Codex medallion so you can see why you can't move.

Cadence: the Action button pulses with every confirmed hit.

Invites stopped interrupting you, too. Party, trade and guild invites now arrive as a slim card under the top bar instead of a dialog in the middle of the screen, and whispers slide out a one-tap reply plate from under Chat.

The Calling Card: invites arrive as a slim card. Accept, and the party frames slide in.

Dying got a little more dignified as well: the death panel rises from below, and your EXP bar keeps a grey trail of what you lost that drains away.

Every menu is a book

The menus are now pages of one open book, the Crossroads Codex: parchment pages and ledger ink for the inventory, Status, skills, trading, the marketplace, the Flower Book, pets and more, refit for wide phones, 720p and iPad layouts.

The Status page: faction, favor, stats and gathering levels on one page.
The Skills page, drawn as a night-sky chart.

Also this month

Boss telegraphs now fill steadily and reach their rim at the moment of impact, and their lines and cones match the server's shapes. The Necromancer robe and the Mind's Eye hat were refit to the new body. Joining the Arena queue now waits for the server to confirm it. The iOS build plays in landscape only. On the tools side, Skill Studio gained a timeline that snaps to frames, server ticks or beats, plus a Feel Lab that previews how a skill feels under network latency.

What's next

Title-screen and sign-in motion is next on my list (the concepts are captured and nothing is picked yet), along with a walk bob for the whole character, fixes for moving between dungeons and the world, and more Codex pages. None of that has shipped yet. If there's a moment you want animated next, tell me on Discord.

See you in the Fate Domains.
